Smear campaigns have long since been an effective way of convincing a massively undereducated population (which couldn't have ANYTHING to do with education funding cuts, could it?...) to move against an organization, religion, or race of people with passion, at a pace which makes it difficult or even discourages them outright to research for themselves the facets of the actual organization or group of people.
That's why it disheartens me to have seen so little pink during the pinkout for Planned Parenthood on Tuesday. Maybe I was just in the wrong area of the city to see my fellow PP supporters out in force, but maybe people aren't up-to-date on the attacks occurring, with the goal of taking away federal funding for the healthcare services provided by Planned Parenthood.
Do you watch Archer? Do you remember this?
Malory: It’s public television. They don’t pay anything! All they do is suck money in. They take our taxes…
Lana: Or donations. Whatever.
Malory: Of pre-tax dollars! From pot-taking, Bolshevik lesbian couples! Then PBS mixes it all in with their huge NEA grants, launders it in inner-city methadone clinics, and pumps it right back out to pro-abortion super-PACs!
I thought that that was just a joke. It's so unbelievably farfetched that I discounted it as a joke, until, soon after this joke aired, a campaign to defund PP picked up with these ridiculous videos and accusations, which has not only wasted taxpayer and pre-tax donation money on Planned Parenthood's side as they struggle to defend healthcare for the lower and middle class, but has wasted Congress' time and taxpayer money as we continue to pay the (ridiculous) salaries of elderly white men who believe that either:
- Planned Parenthood's provision of our (guaranteed right to) abortions (which are not paid for by tax dollars) makes them ineligible to be reimbursed for providing (irrelevant to abortion) medicaid services;
- OR Planned Parenthood's entirely legal practice of donating tissues from otherwise discarded fetal tissue for a small administrative fee (which covers things like shipping, refrigeration, etc, so that this discarded tissue can be used to, I don't know, CURE CANCER) disqualifies them for reimbursement for (again, irrelevant to abortion) medicaid services;
- OR because they believe that somehow the entirely separate funding for political action is benefited by federal taxes (which, as demonstrated this week, is legal and not at all benefitted by tax dollars) is generating funding for the Democratic political campaign.
And so, I point out, as these things are blatantly not true- did whoever smelt it, deal it?
Are Republicans farming campaign dollars through, oh I don't know, what DO they support taxes for? (bail outs, corporations) ---
So these hypocritical, paranoid old men want to take their frustrations out on healthcare providers, because they can't imagine a place in the world that does not exist for personal gain.
Kinda sad, but shut that shit down, and Stand with Planned Parenthood.
